NEW BERLIN, WI (May 4, 2015) – “Man’s best friend” is often considered loyal, unwavering and tenacious – the definition of Reno, a German Shepherd partnered with Officer Tim Nading of the Des Moines, Iowa Police Department. In this week’s episode of Sportsman Channel’s Saving Private K-9, viewers meet an exceptionally brave dog who – despite experiencing one of the most grueling suspect apprehensions he has ever encountered – soldiers on.

Tune in to the award-winning original series Saving Private K-9 on Thursday, May 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT exclusively on Sportsman Channel.

k9Officer Nading and his K-9 partner, Reno, were known as an unstoppable team. This week, viewers witness the strength of their bond. When the duo responds to a call to assist in the apprehension of a suspect on the run, the chase leads them to a densely wooded area. Police officers lose sight of the suspect and Reno is deployed to find him. But when Reno alerts Nading to the suspect’s location, all he can see is a gun – pointed directly at him. Reno lunges forward in an attempt to disarm the newly discovered suspect, and in doing so, begins a grueling battle for survival.

“Some people don’t understand the connection. ‘It’s just a dog,’ they’ll say. But they have never been through the stuff that we’ve been through,” said Officer Nading. “The bond that I had with Reno is probably the strongest bond I’ve ever had. The work things we went through, the emotional things I’ve been through, he has been the one constant that has never left my side.”
