World Record Gram Slam Turkey Hunt by Michael Waddell & Friends Available to Stream NOW on MyOutdoorTV

Waddell, Troy Link and Friends Completed the Slam in Under 11 Hours, Vastly Beating the Previous Slam Record of 45 Hours.

DENVER (May 20, 2024) –  In an astonishing 10 hours and 43 minutes, Michael Waddell – host of Bone Collector and MyOutdoorTV’s “Can’t Stop the Flop” series, along with Troy Link – owner of Jack Link’s, and friends completed the Gram Slam of turkey hunting – and the first part of the slam is available to stream for free now on MyOutdoorTV. This remarkable achievement shattered the previous record of 45 hours set by John Cassimus.

The team embarked on a cross-country hunt spanning four states, successfully harvesting the four subspecies of wild turkey required for a Grand Slam. The turkeys were taken in Georgia (Eastern), Florida (Osceola), Oklahoma (Rio Grande), and Colorado (Merriam), showcasing not only the team's competitive spirit but also their dedication and passion for the sport.

Troy Link was the team’s designated shooter, with Michael Waddell and Bubba Lindley as the callers to yelp and cluck the birds into range. Florida and Georgia property owner, Ike Rainey, provided access to his property, which is intensely managed for wild turkeys. Bone Collector’s Nick Mundt also accompanied, assisting with logistical and moral support. Bone Collector’s producer Cohen Stone, along with Jacob Keel, were there with a clean lens and steady hands to capture the moments. This adventure, likened to “The Amazing Race” for hunting, outpaced the team’s initial goal of 24 hours with only 10 hours and 43 minutes elapsed from the time the first shot on a hard gobbling eastern species was fired.

Reflecting on the achievement, Michael Waddell stated, “This whole adventure just started out with us friends sitting around a campfire talking about how cool it would be to try to kill a slam. Then we thought it’d be cool to try it in a day. We all laughed about it. The next thing we know Troy Link is texting us telling us we should try it; he had the resources and I had plenty of calls in my pocket. We lined it up with landowners to hunt their dirt in Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, and Colorado, set a date, and away we went. Heck, we were all thinking we’d have to be extremely lucky to do it in 24 hours; never thinking 10 hours and 43 minutes was possible, but we just caught them at the magical time us hunters dream of. The Lord gave us great weather and gobblin’ longbeards in every state we went to, that’s almost unheard of to us turkey hunters. I don’t know if I’ll try it again; this time just went too smooth, I may be let down next time. Troy put this together and I was happy to go and yelp…it was just a great time. One thing I know, if you mention something around Troy, you better be careful because you just may find yourself doing it. I’m thankful to share this adventure with our fellow hunters, like it or hate it, it was our personal goal, it’s not for everyone, but I’m happy to hunt anytime and anywhere. We’re so thankful to capture it all on video and hope you’ll enjoy watching it on MyOutdoorTV as much as we enjoyed filming it.”

With more than 20 captivating years on Outdoor Channel with their series Archer’s Choice and The Choice TV with Ralph & Vicki, the couple has delivered unforgettable moments, from record-breaking hunts to intimate wilderness experiences. Yet, it's their recent adventures alongside their son, RJ and his soon-to-be-wife, Aubrey, that resonate deeply, offering a fresh, generational perspective on the great outdoors.

Now, as they celebrate the Outdoor Channel's 30th anniversary, they open up about their favorite moments, the evolution of bowhunting, the impact of Outdoor Channel on the hunting community, and their plans for the future.

"Looking back, there are so many memorable moments, but the adventures shared with RJ and Aubrey, outshine them all," shared Vicki Cianciarulo. Their experiences, ranging from Vicki's significant 200-plus-inch whitetail to Ralph's impressive mule deer he finally connected after a significant stalk, have set the stage for a multitude of wilderness adventures across the globe.

Reflecting on the evolution of bowhunting, Ralph points out, "Change is constant, and thankfully, it has mostly been for the better." They emphasize the importance of staying true to oneself amidst advancements in technology and the influence of social media on hunting practices. “We have always stayed true to ourselves and wanted to have all the viewers know they too could do this,” shared Ralph. Their partnership with long-standing brands has lent authenticity and relatability to their show, making the lifestyle accessible to families and encouraging a deeper connection with nature.

The Cianciarulos underscore the pivotal role of the Outdoor Channel in bringing hunting and outdoor activities into mainstream discussion. “From the early days when we all got together in a small room to eventually being in a huge theater at SHOT Show with real entertainers, awards and other media channels talking about what we all do, its been an amazing journey.
