Sportsman Channel’s “Big Deer TV” Honors Acts of Valor Wednesday, October 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (October 24, 2014)– In honor of wounded military veterans, Mike Hanback, host of Sportsman Channel’s Big Deer TV, joins two war heroes on a quest for whitetail deer in his home state of Virginia. Hanback connects with the men through The Outdoor Heritage Fund and its founder Jack Hazel. The organization is dedicated to providing healing opportunities to veterans, troops and their families through hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. Join the whitetail action and celebrate the bravery of those who serve on Big Deer TV exclusively on Sportsman Channel on Wednesday, October 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Calvin Todd and Ken Katter, military veterans, are known for their courage and bravery on the battlefield. In this week’s episode of Big Deer TV, Hanback is thrilled to give back to the men who spent part of their lives protecting the freedom of every American. Hanback focuses on celebrating their acts of valor and plans for an exciting and entertaining whitetail deer hunt that will – hopefully – end successfully.

“What I’m most proud of, as hunters, is we are a patriotic group. We’re red, white and blue,” said Hanback. “If you ever get the opportunity to go with one of these veterans, one of these heroes and hear their stories and spend a couple of days outside in the woods where we are just drawn to nature and hunting like this, it’s a very special time in your life. It goes to your heart and it goes to your soul. It’s a win-win for everybody.”

Big Deer TV airs exclusively on Sportsman Channel, Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Tune in to Sportsman Channel’s NRANEWS Cam & Co. Wednesday, October 29 at 6 p.m. ET to catch Hanback discussing Big Deer TV and Wednesday night’s episode.

Sportsman Channel Features a Kansas Comeback on “Bowhunter TV” Friday, October 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (October 14, 2014) – In pre-dawn darkness, Curt Wells, host of Sportsman Channel’s Bowhunter TV, returns to his treestand with a bow in hand in Kansas. The task at hand: harvesting a behemoth buck in a location he has had great success in the past — and hoping to avoid a buck he’s been monitoring for two years. Timing is everything if Wells hopes to make a “Kansas Comeback” on Bowhunter TV, exclusively on Sportsman Channel, Friday, October 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Wells is accustomed to early morning hunts, so he sets out well before the sun rises to hunt for what will – hopefully – be the biggest buck he’s ever taken. Instead, a deer he scouted back in 2012 makes an appearance. Thankfully, it’s out of bow range. Wells is determined to resist any temptation to take the large, but young, buck called “Baby Booner” and focuses on hunting for one of several other bucks known to be in the area.

“You couldn’t have scripted this hunt any better,” said Wells. “We ran into an old acquaintance but ended up getting an opportunity at one of the biggest bucks I’ve ever had within bow range, thanks to my two deer decoys. I love hunting Kansas and can’t wait to get back to one of my favorite places to hunt whitetails.”

“Petersen’s Hunting Adventures” Revisit Memorable Deer Camps Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Sportsman Channel

NEW BERLIN, WI (October 7, 2014) – This week’s episode of Petersen’s Hunting Adventures on Sportsman Channel takes viewers inside the crew’s annual deer camp.  The men honor and continue their tradition by sharing laughs and hunting experiences with a look back at a few unforgettable hunts. While looking back, they also prepare to hunt California coastal mule deer – better known as blacktails to the locals. Petersen’s Hunting Adventures airs Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Sportsman Channel.

For hunters, reminiscing around a campfire can provide memorable moments that last a lifetime – especially at deer camp. Every year, Petersen’s Hunting Adventures gathers in a new location to hunt wild game and remember previous years’ hunting mishaps, successes and everything in between. The men relive some of their favorite moments, but nostalgia doesn’t deter them from continuing the pursuit for California coastal mule deer. The landscape is a mix of plains and mountains – a beautiful sight – but a challenge to hunt.

“Deer camp is really four days of paradise,” admitted Kevin Steele, host of Petersen’s Hunting Adventures. “We’ve taken our annual gathering across the country – places like Washington State, Kansas and now California – and it’s all about tradition, family and good friends. I don’t think anything sums that up better than the four days we get to spend hunting together.”

Sportsman Channel’s “North American Whitetail” Celebrates 10 Years

10th anniversary episode airs Wednesday, October 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT NEW BERLIN, WI (October 3, 2014) Sportsman Channel’s North American Whitetail, a staple in the network’s whitetail programming lineup, is celebrating 10 years of the biggest bucks and whitetail hunts in their 10th anniversary episode on Wednesday, October 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.  Stan Potts and Pat Hogan, hosts, take viewers through some of the most exciting and memorable moments of North American Whitetail since 2004. Take a look back at the last 10 years of the show in an exclusive video. What is it that NAW-10thanniversary-300x300keeps an outdoor show relevant and viewers coming back for more? For Sportsman Channel’s North American Whitetail, it’s the thrilling, sometimes humorous whitetail hunts, and the experienced hosts that bring the show to life. Over a span of 10 years, North American Whitetail has informed, entertained and enlightened viewers on the topic of all things whitetail. From their craziest hunts and off-the-wall footage, to Potts’ all-time favorite hunt, the series has proven staying power. “In 1983 I killed a buck that, at the time, would have scored number three in the world with a bow. North American Whitetail did a story about it, which began my association with the magazine. Then, Pat Reeve came to me and Greg Miller with the idea for a television show and I made the connection between Gordon Whittington and Pat,” remembered Potts. “We started the show in 2004, in a studio in Wisconsin. We had no idea how long it would last, we just knew we were doing something we loved to do. Ten years later, we’re happy to continue sharing our whitetail knowledge and hunting experiences. We’ll throw in a few more laughs of course, too.” “If there’s one thing that sticks out to me the most about North American Whitetail on Sportsman Channel, it’s the amount of people it takes to put this show together,” said Hogan. “We’ve had a lot of fun and we’ve learned a lot throughout the years, but none of it would have been possible without our production staff, our families and all of the outfitters we work with.” Visit the redesigned North American Whitetail TV website for more whitetail action http://www.northamericanwhitetail.com/tv/and learn more about the show on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/NAWhitetail and Twitter https://twitter.com/@NAWhitetail To find Sportsman Channel in your area click here. Sportsman Channel Travels Down Under in Search of Rusa Deer on “Petersen’s Hunting Adventures” on Sunday, May 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (May 8, 2014) – Brittany Boddington, co-host of Petersen’s Hunting Adventures, gears up for her first-ever bowhunting adventure in Australia, where her prey, a rusa deer, awaits. The deer are plentiful but, with little bowhunting experience, Boddington must decide if she is up for the challenge. Discover if Boddington can arrow a rusa deer on this week’s episode of Petersen’s Hunting Adventures exclusively on Sportsman Channel, Sunday, May 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Boddington begins her first bowhunt in the Australian Outback with excitement and uncertainty. When a less-than-ideal outcome results from hunting in a tree stand and from behind a blind, Boddington begins stalking the deer on foot instead.

The hunt continues and, after Boddington has an opportunity to get a few rounds of practice shooting in, her confidence rises. A rusa deer is in sight, and her persistence could pay off, if she successfully closes the distance.

Wells uses the barren terrain to his advantage in hopes of becoming the first modern bowhunter to take a Greenlandic Caribou. Travel abroad with Wells on Bowhunter TV on Sportsman Channel, Friday, January 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. Catch a sneak peak of this week’s hunt online at Sportsman Channel: http://bit.ly/1f7iHtw

After traveling by land, air and sea, Wells and friends arrive in Greenland.  The stakes are high, as Wells attempts to take a muskox and become the first modern bowhunter to take a Greenlandic caribou. “It’s not often one gets to stalk big game with a massive glacier as a backdrop,” said Wells, co-host of Bowhunter TV. “It was a spectacular bowhunting adventure.”

Uncertainty rises as the prey in sight suddenly disappears. But the spontaneity of the hunt is what drives Wells to continue tracking amidst the incredible scenery. “This was one of my favorite stalks of all time,” said Wells. “We definitely were hoping that all of the preparation and travel it took to get there would be worth it in the end.”

New Berlin, WI (July 11, 2013) – Don’t miss the continuation of hard-core bull elk hunting in part two of Bowhunter TV’s fall series premier exclusively on Sportsman Channel this Friday, July 12 at 9 pm ET/PT. After 18 years of applying, Producer Danny Farris and his dad finally draw the public land elk tag of their dreams and head into the high desert country of northwest Colorado. This is public land, DIY action at its very best with two experienced elk hunters chasing monster bulls in their home state. And the father and son team’s trophy tags prove to be absolutely worth the wait, delivering pointblank encounters, incredibly broad-beamed bulls, and memories to last a lifetime.

Catch a sneak peek of the upcoming season on Sportsman’s Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152952189980273

“This hunt proved to be everything we’d hoped for, and more!” said Bowhunter TV Producer Danny Farris. “Dad and I took a couple of great bulls, but what really made it special for me was sharing the excitement of so many incredible encounters. I’ve been following my dad through the elk woods since I was a little boy, and when it comes to calling elk in close, he typically has ice running through his veins. On this hunt, however, I got to see his ice melt!  I’ll never forget it!”

In addition to amazing elk action – and priceless elk-hunting insights – viewers get solid gear advice from Host Mike Carney and Equipment Editor Tony Peterson, who will share tips on peep-sight selection and building a bowhunting “possibles bag.” Pro archer Randy Ulmer will teach you how he preps a bow for the backcountry, and Editor Curt Wells will give away his personal elk-calling system.

Mike Hanback’s Journey to ‘Great White North’ Yields HUGE Results on Sportsman Channel

Big Deer TV with Mike Hanback Battles Elements & Spots a Predator of the North

New Berlin, WI (July 10, 2013) – Harvesting ‘big bucks’ once a year in Canada has become a way of life for Mike Hanback during the last ten years and that is not about to change. Sportsman Channel, the leader in outdoor TV for the American sportsman, takes audiences into Canada for unmatched whitetail hunting with Mike Hanback. The latest journey north finds Hanback trying to snap his string of bad luck in Alberta and conversely maintain his success rate in Saskatchewan. The results in one of these Canadian locations will likely make viewer do a double take. Big Deer TV is an original television series that premieres exclusively on Sportsman Channel. Do NOT miss the ups and downs on Wednesday, July 10 at 8:00 ET/PT.

The frigid temperatures and the 20 mile per hour winds are certainly tough to deal with, but the elements will not deter the positive spirits of Mike Hanback as he searches for the buck of his dreams. Alberta proves once again to be tricky for buck sightings, however; there is a silver lining when Hanback has a memorable encounter with a massive grey wolf in the distance with an eagle soaring above.  The Canadian journey moves east from Alberta to Saskatchewan where his energy is renewed by several sightings of does and small bucks in the thick woods. Hanback did not have to wait long before a dominant buck rolls into the area and the adrenaline begins to flow.

“I could not believe the size of this old buck,” said Mike Hanback, host of Big Deer with Mike Hanback. “I saw this huge buck in my cross hairs and made a clean harvest. I have had a lot of luck in this location in the past, but this massive buck was my proudest moment in Canada. When I factor in the freezing temperatures and wind chill, the end result could not be more satisfying.
