Big Deer with Mike Hanback Honors U.S. Veteran with Whitetail Hunt Tomorrow Night on Sportsman Channel

New Berlin, WI – (October 16, 2012) Sportsman Channel, the leader in outdoor television for the American Sportsman, brings audiences an episode every American can be proud of watching on Big Deer with Mike Hanback tomorrow night on the network. After receiving a heartfelt viewer e-mail, Hanback feels compelled and moved to extend an invitation to Captain Zane Keen of the U.S. Army to a whitetail hunt in his home state of Virginia. Captain Keen expresses a strong interest in the show and in his country and the end result is something Hollywood directors dream about. Watch Big Game Wednesday tomorrow presented by Wildgame Innovation with Big Deer with Mike Hanback at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.

From the moment Captain Keen receives a whitetail hunting invitation from Hanback, he is thrilled and begins preparing for his trip from Fort Bragg, North Carolina to Virgina. The first few days are mixed with positives and challenges as the two men discover a lot of deer movement, however, not a great deal of “shooter bucks”. The weather elements are also standing in the way with serious rainfall and windy conditions. The pressure is palatable on the final day of the hunt and Captain Keen makes his move on a big whitetail. After moving to within 200 yards, he lines up his rifle and connects on a massive non-typical buck which makes the entire camp ecstatic!

“All of a sudden, I hear a gun shot and I have a good feeling about the result,” said Hanback, host of Big Deer with Mike Hanback. “As I approach Zane and see the huge non-typical buck, I begin to beam with pride and excitement for Zane and his journey on this great hunt. He’s been through a lot in life and this is just a small token of my appreciation to Zane and all of the great men and women that serve our great country.  Zane is an American hero and I’m proud to have him on our side and call him a friend.”

A First for Petersen’s Hunting; All Four Hosts Join Together at “Deer Camp” in South Texas

New Berlin, WI – (September 23, 2011)Sportsman Channel, the leader in outdoor TV for the American Sportsman, is taking viewers of Peterson’s HUNTING Adventures, presented by Federal Premium, on a management hunt that combines jaw dropping excitement with memorable humor. For the first time in the five season history of their show, all four hosts from Petersen’s HUNTING Adventures join together for an unforgettable management deer hunt in South Texas. Hosts Craig Boddington, Kevin Steele, Mike Schoby and Greg Rodriquez made the most of this unique five-day hunt by harvesting three impressive bucks. You can watch this one-of-a-kind reunion on Sunday, September 25 at 8:30 pm EST.

The weather was a slightly on the warm side for good deer movement, however when it was all said and done, the big “winner” of the group was Rodriquez as he tagged a 12-point buck with his rifle. Generally, there is an 8-point max on a management hunt, however this particular ranch allowed10-points or better – as long as the buck was at least five and half years or older. Steele and Schoby also enjoyed success as they each “bagged” a buck from their stands.

“The idea behind the Deer Camp episode was to get myself and my co-hosts Craig Boddington, Mike Schoby and Greg Rodriquez on a hunt together for the first time,” said Kevin Steele, co-host. “One deer camp, four hosts, five days – what could possibly go wrong? Deer Camp is our salute to a time-honored tradition among American males. It pre-dates poker nights and tailgate parties.”

Not only did this prodigious group harvest three impressive bucks, but they also tagged one javalina and one hog – both with a ten point crossbows.

This memorable hunt would not be complete without some good old fashion “shenanigans” between friends. One example of their fun will show Schoby’s whitetail deer pencil puppet head that dangles outside the blind while the camera is recording. Another moment of levity came when Boddington and Steele sing “kumbaya” around the camp – just a couple of many funny moments in Petersen’s Hunting.

Petersen’s HUNTING Adventures is in its sixth season on the air as one of America’s favorite hunting shows. Travel the globe in search of the world’s most sought-after big game trophies with Petersen’s HUNTING experts’ Craig Boddington, Kevin Steele, Dick Metcalf, Mike Schoby and Greg Rodriquez.
