50th Anniversary Issue of ‘Petersen’s HUNTING Magazine’ on Stands Now
May 17, 2023Special Collector’s Issue is Filled with History and Remembrance of Movers & Shakers Who Shaped the Hunting Industry These Past 50 Years
DENVER (May 17, 2023) – Sure to sell-out on newsstands, the special collector’s issue of Petersen’s HUNTING magazine celebrating 50 years in publishing is available on stands now. Since 1973, Petersen’s HUNTING magazine has been the leading source of educational and entertaining information and stories for hunters from around the world. This special, 120-page commemorative issue is filled with history, from a remembrance of the founding father and magazine pioneer, Robert E. “Pete” Petersen, to an in-depth look at the innovations and innovators who have shaped hunting for the last half-century. The issue also includes flashback feature stories from legendary writers as Jack O’Connor, Peter Hathaway Capstick, John Wooters and more.
“Celebrating a 50th Anniversary in any business is a notable achievement, but even more so in the publishing business. Petersen’s HUNTING’s continuing longevity and relevance in the shooting, hunting and outdoor industry is a testament to Mr. Petersen’s vision a half-century ago and the quality and content of the publication, which continues to resonate with our vast audience of readers and advertisers. We thank them most sincerely for their decades-long support,” shared Kevin E. Steele, Publisher.
Current HUNTING writers, such as Craig Boddington and Jim Zumbo, pay homage to the past with their pieces. Boddington with his article “The Man Behind the Magazines,” focuses on how Pete Petersen built his magazine empire. “Some called him Bob. Tom Siatos, longtime head of the Outdoor Group, called him Chief. I think he preferred, and often suggested ‘Pete,’ but to me he was ‘Mr. Petersen,’ stated Boddington in that article. Jim Zumbo dedicates his “Rearview” column space entirely to reminiscing about Petersen’s HUNTING magazine with his article, “What HUNTING Means to Me.”
Steele shares in his “Publisher’s Note” of how Mr. Petersen stated he didn’t like reading fishing in other magazines, which served as the seed of a magazine dedicated solely to hunting. “As hunters, we all owe a debt to the man whose name appears on the cover of this magazine, said Steele. “He was one of us.”
